NFLX Long Call: the essentials
- Max profit: theoretically unlimited: it rises roughly dollar-for-dollar with the stock once it's above your breakeven.
- Breakeven: the strike price plus the premium you paid.
- Outlook: bullish — you profit when the stock rises meaningfully before expiration.
Long Call FAQ
Educational overview of how the strategy works — not financial advice.
What is a long call on NFLX?
You buy a call on Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) for a premium, giving you the right — not the obligation — to buy 100 shares at the strike before expiration. It's a leveraged bullish bet: a small outlay controls 100 shares, with large upside if NFLX rises.
How much can I make and lose on a NFLX long call?
Your loss is capped at the premium paid — that's the most you can lose. Profit is theoretically unlimited, rising roughly dollar-for-dollar with NFLX once it clears your breakeven.
What is the breakeven on a NFLX long call?
The strike price plus the premium you paid. NFLX has to close above that at expiration for the trade to be profitable.
What hurts a long call even if I'm right on direction?
Time decay (theta) and falling implied volatility (vega). A slow grind higher can still bleed the option's value, and if you bought when IV was high, a volatility collapse can erase gains even as NFLX rises. Buying calls when IV is low is generally better.
Should I buy in-the-money or out-of-the-money calls on NFLX?
In-the-money calls (high delta) behave more like the stock with less time decay but cost more; out-of-the-money calls are cheaper with more convexity (explosive gains on a big move) but a higher chance of expiring worthless. Match the strike to your conviction and timeframe.
